What We’re Up To:

Sustainably Serving our Local Community Through our Home Essentials Program and our Nonprofit Partnership Program

Nonprofit Partnership Program

Swedemom Center of Giving and MacHub are committed to sustainability in every part of our work—from accepting donated items that might otherwise end up in the landfill, to redistributing those items to individuals and communities in need throughout Yamhill County. In 2025, MacHub donated almost 2000 pounds of items to nonprofits as in kind donations.

One of the key initiatives supporting this mission is our Nonprofit Partnership Program (NPP), designed to strengthen the nonprofit sector through collaboration and resource sharing. The model is simple: we receive donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners, and instead of using or selling these items, we redistribute them directly to nonprofit organizations that can put them to meaningful use.

How It Works

1. Receive Donations – MacHub accepts new and gently used items from donors who want to support their community. 2. Assess Needs – We maintain active communication with our nonprofit partners to understand their current and emerging needs. 3. Redistribute Items – Donated goods are matched with organizations that can use them effectively and immediately. 4. Support Organizations – Our partners use these resources to expand their capacity and better serve the individuals who rely on their services.

Through NPP, MacHub serves as a connector between donors and nonprofits, transforming community generosity into real, measurable impact. By centralizing donation intake and redistributing resources thoughtfully, we reduce waste, promote sustainability, and empower mission-driven organizations to stretch their budgets and strengthen their programs.

Together, we build stronger, more sustainable communities—one donation at a time.

Home Essentials Program

ree

The Home Essentials Program (HEP) provides furniture and household goods to individuals and families transitioning into stable housing, helping to create safe, comfortable, and functional living spaces. By partnering with service agencies, the program increases the success of housing placements by ensuring clients have the items they need to settle in and thrive. This support reduces move-in costs, improves housing retention, and strengthens overall program outcomes for partner agencies- while keeping valuable goods in circulation and out of the landfill.

Turning Empty Spaces Into Homes A roof over your head is just the beginning- it's the furniture, the dishes, the bed to sleep in that make a house feel like home.

Through the Home Essentials Program, we help individuals and families moving into stable housing fill empty rooms with the basic items they need to live with comfort and dignity.

Every donated couch, table, or lamp not only transforms a space but also restores hope, stability, and the foundation for a fresh start. Program and Strategies

  • Supporting Housing Stability

Provide essential furniture and household goods to help individuals and families successfully transition into and maintain stable housing. By meeting basic needs, we help reduce the risk of returns to homelessness and support long-term housing success.

  • Strengthen Community Partnerships

Collaborate with local agencies to enhance client outcomes, reduce barriers to housing retention, and improve program impact. Working together allows us to leverage resources, streamline referrals, and ensure that no family falls through the cracks.

  • Promote Environmental Sustainability

Divert reusable furniture and household items from landfills by repurposing donations to meet community needs. This environmentally responsible approach not only reduces waste but also maximizes the value of every donated item.

  • Foster Dignity and Well-Being

Ensure that every household served has the basic items necessary to create a safe, comfortable, and dignified living environment. By providing these essentials, we help individuals regain a sense of stability, pride, and belonging in their new homes.

Volunteer Spotlight:

Bruce Waltz, a long time volunteer at MacHub sat down and shared the story of how he came to volunteer at MacHub, what he enjoys most about his volunteering experience, and how he feels he’s made a difference through his volunteer work, not just at MacHub, but across Yamhill County. Bruce spent many years as an elementary school principal inspiring the younger generation and building connections within his community. During this time he saw the impacts of food insecurity, child abuse, and skewed immigration policies. When Bruce retired, he knew he wanted to help combat these inequalities, so he dedicated his time to volunteering with organizations that addressed these issues. Bruce now spends his time volunteering at five nonprofit organizations, and we are lucky enough to be one of them.

Bruce came into contact with MacHub when donating items. As luck would have it, the day he made his donation, he ran into director Cami Nyquist, and the two got to chatting as he had been her children's principal. Bruce revealed that he had been working as a volunteer driver for another local nonprofit but they had grown so big that his service was no longer needed. Cami mentioned that MacHub was in the process of expanding the furniture delivery program and Bruce, along with two other volunteers that he brought over, made the switch to start volunteering at MacHub.

When asked what his favorite part of volunteering with MacHub was, Bruce said that he enjoys having the opportunity to meet new people and see the difference he is making at each of his furniture deliveries. Being able to see on a personal level the impact on a family when he makes a furniture delivery affirms for him that he’s making a positive difference in the community he has dedicated his life to serving. Thank you for your great service in our community, Bruce!
