Spokes of Giving
Founder of Swedemom Center of Giving, Cami Nyquist, was recently interviewed by the News Register to find out where it all began. MacHub was formed as a nonprofit in 2015 under the umbrella of Swedemom Center of Giving and is currently operated by SCOG, a 501(c)(3) organization. MacHub was created in order to collect donations of usable items to keep them out of the landfill, get them to nonprofit organizations to help them fulfill their missions, or sold online to train individuals getting back into the workforce through job program partnerships. McMinnville High School Prom Shopping Event
During the first week of April, McMinnville High School's resource room put on an event where students could come "shopping" for free attire to wear to their upcoming prom. MacHub was able to participate in the cause by donating several items such as clothing racks, hangers, dresses, purses, jewelry, belts, dress shoes, shirts, and slacks. They were able to gather about 200 items from around the community to help their students feel amazing and have fun at the prom. We are grateful for the opportunity to assist in such a great cause. Partner Spotlight: YCAP
The Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP) was founded in 1980 as part of a nationwide network of social service organizations created to support low-income people and strengthen communities. They serve the residents of Yamhill County, focusing on four main service areas: housing stabilization, energy services, the regional food bank, and youth services. YCAP's mission is to "advocate for and assist persons toward self-sufficiency."
YCAP has recently been a part of Project Turnkey, a grant program from the Oregon Community Foundation that allows agencies to purchase previously used motels across the state. The grant of $75 million will add more than 900 rooms available for emergency shelter to unhoused individuals. YCAP contacted us in January to fill a need once these individuals were housed. Since then, Swedemom Center of Giving and MacHub have been able to assist YCAP in their efforts to provide more stable housing to families by passing through donated goods of furniture, bedding, small appliances, cookware, cleaning supplies, and toiletries to get them started in their new homes. We are grateful for your donations, our employees and volunteers, and YCAP for making this possible. Know that your support in our mission changes lives. Get To Know Our Team
Amy Potter is the Operations Manager of Swedemom Center of Giving (SCOG). Amy has been working with the organization since 2015 when she was introduced to Cami (founder and executive director) by a mutual friend. Amy thought the ideas that Cami discussed were smart, forward-thinking, and fresh. When Amy and Cami began working together, SCOG was not yet formed and the organization was operating under the umbrella of Yamhill County Gospel Rescue Mission as MacHub. Amy has worked in all areas of the production process at MacHub beginning on the ground floor and learning the intricacies of each position. With her background in aviation operations and logistics, she then shifted into more of an operational oversight position for the organization. Now, her primary responsibilities include operations management as well as customer service, partner relationships, and human resources. To Amy, there are so many things that have been inspiring to her since her time with the company. She said, "One of the best parts of my job is being able to mentor others as well as learn from them. I also enjoy collaborating with the other local nonprofit organizations in our community in order to help fulfill the needs of our community. I have faith in what we do to serve our community. I know that we are doing the right things for the right reasons and that encourages and gives me hope every day."
In her free time, she is currently working on a master's degree in Human Services Counseling: Executive Leadership through Liberty University. She enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She loves the ocean and the mountains and considers summer her favorite of all the seasons. Some cool facts about her are that she has stood on the Pyramids in Cairo and cruised the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey.
A dream she has for her future is to eventually open Amy's House of Hope. This dream is still in the making but would entail housing, connection to community services as well as job connections for marginalized individuals. It would be an opportunity to learn, grow, and transform for all those who seek. She would also love to travel the world and visit places like Peru and Jerusalem.
We are grateful for the work Amy does for SCOG and MacHub, we would be lost without her!
